Chae Soo-Pyung's Solo Exhibition at AM Gallery in Chelsea
Chae Soo-Pyung's Solo Exhibition: "Korean Anchovies – Coloring New York" Chae Soo-Pyung’s solo exhibition, "Korean Anchovies – Coloring New York," will be held from March 11 to March 17, 2025, at Chelsea AM Gallery, New York. The opening reception is scheduled for March 13 at 4:00 PM.

This exhibition transcends the conventional art display, offering profound insights into contemporary Korean art on the global stage. As part of "Project 14C" in collaboration with Chelsea’s AP Gallery and AM Gallery, it marks the artist’s 21st solo exhibition, epitomizing the pinnacle of his artistic journey. Notably, this exhibition symbolically reinterprets Korean anchovies, embedding a philosophical message that delves into nature, humanity, and the inner world.

In Chae Soo-Pyung's art, anchovies transcend their natural existence and are reborn as symbolic mediators representing human life, dreams, and utopian ideals. His canvases, densely populated with anchovies as pointillistic elements, merge natural landscapes with imaginative realms, creating a surreal atmosphere. This composition invites viewers to reflect deeply on the intricate relationship between humanity and nature. Through the interplay of transparency, light, and shadows, his works metaphorically convey the essence of human existence, evoking a sense of familiarity and imagination in the audience. His aesthetic approach is not merely about form construction but is the result of meticulous calculation and relentless exploration.

Chae Soo-Pyung’s artistic world is characterized by an adventurous spirit that embraces change and experimentation. His work transcends the boundaries of tradition and modernity, nature and humanity, reality and imagination, establishing a unique artistic style. This exhibition not only provides a crucial opportunity to showcase his artistic prowess internationally but also represents a symbolic step in expanding the horizons of Korean art.
Mr. Charles, the director of New York AM Gallery, expressed deep admiration for Chae Soo-Pyung’s originality and philosophical depth. He emphasized that this exhibition will play a vital role in promoting Korean art on the global stage. "Just as a small drop of water can pierce through a rock, I hope Chae Soo-Pyung’s artistic passion contributes to introducing Korean art to the world," he remarked, underscoring the significance of the exhibition.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Chae Soo-Pyung has been actively involved in academia, teaching at institutions such as Sejong University, Hoseo University, and Chonnam National University. He has also served as a juror for prestigious art competitions, including the Korea Art Exhibition. His works are part of the collections at Hoseo University, Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, Yeosu City Museum, Chonnam National University Museum, Gwangyang City Hall, and Suncheon City Hall, affirming their artistic value.
"Korean Anchovies – Coloring New York" is more than just an art showcase—it serves as a platform for philosophical reflection, exploring artistic philosophy and the depths of human consciousness.
