“Beautiful Rupture” — Where Beauty Breaks, Possibility Begins

[New York=Korea Art News Priscilla Kim Reporter] The upcoming group exhibition Beautiful Rupture will be held at Gallery Chang in New York, from June 20 to July 22, 2025, featuring five internationally recognized artists: Bret Price, Kelly Berg, Mark Acetelli, Moon Insoo, and Kimi Kim Witlling. Together, their works explore the delicate balance and latent tension between beauty and destruction, form and fragmentation, nature and artificiality.

Guided by the quote, “Beauty is not found in perfection, but in the moment it begins to break,” the exhibition focuses on rupture—not as an endpoint, but as a threshold, a beginning. Each participating artist presents a personal visual language and distinct material approach to reveal what often lies unseen: the quiet violence and fragile truths hidden beneath the polished surface of beauty.

The works on view offer more than visual pleasure—they ask deeply contemplative questions: What does it mean for beauty to fracture? Can transformation and tension yield new aesthetic truths? Steel, pigment, video, and installation materials collide to form powerful moments of collapse and emergence, fragility and strength.

From twisted steel sculptures that evoke emotional turmoil, to paintings that mimic lightning strikes and fragmented geologies, and installations where organic elements meet human intervention, Beautiful Rupture redefines the role of damage and disintegration in the artistic process. Rather than mourn what is lost, these artists illuminate the creative potential found precisely at the point where things fall apart.

[뉴욕=코리아아트뉴스 김용경 기자] 뉴욕의 갤러리 장(Gallery Chang)에서 열리는 그룹전 Beautiful Rupture가 오는 2025년 6월 20일부터 7월 22일까지 관객들과 만난다.

브렛 프라이스(Bret Price), 켈리 버그(Kelly Berg), 마크 아세텔리(Mark Acetelli), 문인수(Moon Insoo), 키미 킴 위틀링(Kimi Kim Witlling) 등 국내외 작가 5인이 참여한 이번 전시는 아름다움이 완벽함에 있지 않고, 그 완벽함이 금이 가기 시작하는 그 순간에 진짜 아름다움이 존재한다는 메시지를 중심으로 한다.

전시 제목이자 주제인 Beautiful Rupture(아름다운 균열)는 파괴와 해체가 종말이 아닌 새로운 시작과 가능성의 공간임을 강조한다. 참여 작가들은 각기 다른 재료와 시각 언어로 아름다움과 파괴, 형식과 해체, 자연과 인공 사이에서 생성되는 긴장과 조화를 풀어내며, 표면 아래 감춰진 조용한 폭력성과 연약한 진실을 예술로 드러낸다.

작품 속에서 균열은 단순한 상처가 아니라, 미의 재정의가 일어나는 장소로 등장한다. 금이 가는 순간, 형상이 무너지는 찰나, 인공의 질감에 자연이 침투하는 틈새에서 각 작가는 그들만의 방식으로 새로운 감각의 차원을 제시한다. 이를 통해 관람객은 아름다움이란 고정된 이상이 아니라, 지속적인 긴장과 변형, 무너짐 속에서 새롭게 피어나는 것임을 공감하게 된다.

전시 관계자는 “Beautiful Rupture는 관객에게 질문을 던지는 전시입니다. 무너짐과 파열의 순간을 통해 오히려 강인함, 창조성, 그리고 진실된 아름다움이 피어난다는 점을 함께 사유해보길 바랍니다”라고 전했다.
