세계 어린 예술가들의 상상력, 뉴욕 첼시에서 만난다… ‘2026 IYAC Global Junior Art Contest’ 수상작展 개최

전 세계 어린 예술가들의 창의적인 시선과 상상력을 만날 수 있는 ‘2026 IYAC Global Junior Art Contest’ 수상작 전시회(Winner’s Exhibition)가 오는 8월 19일부터 23일까지 미국 뉴욕 첼시의 코스모스 갤러리(Cosmos Gallery)에서 열린다.

이번 전시는 마이슬라이드(MySLide Corp)가 주최한 국제 어린이 미술대회 IYAC Global Junior Art Contest의 수상작을 선보이는 자리로, 5세부터 12세까지 세계 각국 어린이들의 작품이 한자리에 소개된다. 대회는 대한항공의 후원과 GSEF 재단의 파트너십으로 진행됐으며, 올해 주제는 ‘We Are Connected’다.

‘IYAC Junior’는 어린이들에게 가족과 친구, 자연, 그리고 일상의 작은 순간들을 통해 우리가 서로 어떻게 연결되어 있는지를 자신만의 시선과 감성으로 표현하도록 했다. 단순한 미술경연을 넘어 어린이들이 예술을 통해 세계와 자신, 그리고 타인과의 관계를 바라보게 한다는 점에서 의미를 더한다.

전 세계에서 접수된 작품은 전문 심사위원들의 심사를 거쳐 최종 수상작이 선정됐다. 심사에는 미국 사바나예술대학교(SCAD) 학장이자 AP Art and Design 수석 심사관인 데일 클리포드(Dale Clifford)와 이화여자대학교 동양화과 임장순 교수가 참여했다.

특히 수상자들에게는 고든 M. 존슨(Gordon M. Johnson) 뉴저지주 상원의원이 수여하는 ‘뉴저지주 상원의원상(New Jersey State Senator’s Award)’과 공식 인증서가 수여돼 어린 예술가들의 성취를 국제무대에서 격려한다.

선정된 작품들은 전문적으로 인쇄돼 뉴욕 코스모스 갤러리에 전시된다. 관람객들은 세계 각국 어린이들이 가족과 자연, 우정과 일상을 바라보는 다양한 시선과 풍부한 상상력을 한 공간에서 감상할 수 있다. 전시는 무료로 진행된다.

전시가 열리는 코스모스 갤러리는 뉴욕 맨해튼 첼시에 위치해 있다. 전시는 8월 19일 오후 3시부터 6시까지 오프닝을 시작으로, 8월 20일부터 22일까지는 정오부터 오후 6시, 폐막일인 23일에는 정오부터 오후 4시까지 관람할 수 있다.

이번 전시는 어린이들의 작품을 단순히 ‘어린이 미술’이라는 범주에 머물게 하지 않고, 각기 다른 문화와 환경에서 성장하는 아이들이 바라본 ‘연결’의 의미를 뉴욕이라는 국제도시에서 공유한다는 점에서도 주목된다. 서로 다른 언어와 국적을 넘어 그림을 통해 소통하는 어린 작가들의 작품은 ‘We Are Connected’라는 올해의 주제를 시각적으로 보여주는 또 하나의 메시지가 될 것으로 기대된다.

전시 공식 사진과 영상은 행사 종료 후 IYAC Junior 웹사이트를 통해 공개될 예정이며, 전시 기간 동안 누구나 무료로 방문해 작품을 관람하고 참가 어린이들의 성취를 함께 축하할 수 있다.

• The 2026 IYAC Global Junior Art Contest Winners’ Exhibition will take place from August 19 through 23 at Cosmos Gallery in Chelsea, New York, bringing together works by young artists from around the world.
• Organized by MySLide Corp, with support from Korean Air and in partnership with the GSEF Foundation, the exhibition marks the culmination of the international IYAC Global Junior Art Contest. This year’s competition invited children ages 5 to 12 to create works under the theme “We Are Connected.”

• Through the competition, IYAC Junior encouraged children to explore the many ways people are connected in everyday life — through family, friendship, nature, and the small moments that bring people together. The young participants were invited to interpret these ideas through their own imagination, experiences, and artistic perspectives.

• Winning works were selected from an international pool of entries by a distinguished jury that included Dale Clifford, Dean of Academics at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Chief Reader for AP Art and Design, as well as Professor Jangsoon Im of Ewha Womans University.

• Winners will also receive the New Jersey State Senator’s Award, presented by Hon. Gordon M. Johnson, together with official certificates recognizing their artistic achievements.

• Selected artworks will be professionally printed and displayed at Cosmos Gallery, offering New York audiences an opportunity to experience the imagination, sensitivity, and diverse perspectives of children from different cultural backgrounds. Admission to the exhibition is free throughout its run.

• Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea art district, Cosmos Gallery will open the exhibition on Wednesday, August 19, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The gallery will be open from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on August 20–22, and from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the closing day, August 23.

• More than simply a showcase of children’s artwork, the exhibition highlights how young people from different countries and backgrounds understand the idea of connection. By presenting their works in New York, the exhibition creates a shared visual language through which children can communicate across borders, cultures, and generations.
